Channeling your 'inner salamander'

Humans have not yet managed to regrow their own limbs, but salamanders have.

Studying salamanders can therefore help humans to learn how.  It turns out that the regenerative microRNA that salamanders
possess is within human bodies also.  This allows for “cartilage repair” within some of our body parts.

Salamanders “regenerate fastest at the furthest tips of their bodies,” and so do we.  Our ankles, for example, can repair cartilage way better than our hips.  That is why “there are fewer instances of arthritis in the ankle” than there are in central joints.

As we learn more about regenerative capabilities, people might one day receive microRNA injections for injured or arthritic joints.  A “molecular cocktail” could perhaps include other regenerative components that would stimulate the growth of “entire limbs.”
