Some things are just plain worth it

Those nearing retirement age hear dire warnings about outliving their savings.  But what’s even worse is outliving life itself.

Therefore, certain perks are worth keeping.  Travel is right up there for some folks.  It allows for adventure and sparks a humdrum routine.

Annick Lenoir-Peek writes about the benefits of exploring new places.  Travel allows her to “unplug,” both literally and figuratively.  She then returns “to the office refreshed and ready to tackle new projects.”

It also introduces her to foods in a way that restaurants alone can’t.  Tasting a street vendor’s wares gives an in-depth experience that menus lack.  Locals who share tips about favorite haunts may later become friends.

Travel does not have to break the bank.  There are ways to cut costs on everything from lodging to transportation.  Research these possibilities beforehand, then discover the bon in bon voyage.
