Pink Tax

Females have been paying considerably more than males for comparable items. This has been called the “pink tax” and averages approximately $1351 per year in additional expenses.

According to Listen Money Matters, female-oriented purchases are generally 7% higher for toys, 4 to 8% higher for clothing, and “13% more for personal care products.”

This under-the-radar “tax” even applies to products such as tampons and pads, which are categorized as luxuries.  Are items that integral to basic feminine hygiene really so luxurious?

To make matters financially worse, females lose out in two other significant ways:  They make less money than males to begin with, and their overall need is greater because they tend to live longer.
