Tony Romo: Faith on a jersey sleeve

These days, there’s a lot of talk about Tony Romo.  But that’s just about football.  Romo wants to be recognized for far more than that.

A 2011 Sports Day article explained that Romo “takes his faith to the field.”  This faith was originally nurtured by a Methodist upbringing.  Although these early years laid a firm foundation, his personal relationship with Christ was lacking.  That later developed with “the ups downs of college football.”

As Romo worked to excel at the sport he loved, he began thinking that there must be something even greater.  Overwhelmed with stress, “he came to Christ… [and] felt on fire the first time he recited the Lord’s Prayer after he was saved.” He began avidly reading the Gospel.

Romo then became a devoted member of The Village Church, a Texas-based ministry.  A Cowboys chaplain said at the time:  [Romo’s] relationship with the Lord has grown, his hunger, his thirst.

This faith can continue to bolster Romo through the highs and lows of the trade game.  As long as he trades the high life for an even higher one, he should be just fine.
