Bless animals, but raise children

Although his namesake was certainly keen on blessing animals, Pope Francis is even keener on raising children. 

The pontiff recently deplored the fact that many couples are choosing pets over kids.  These purposely childless families often favor personal freedom over the heavy-duty responsibilities of parenthood. 

Francis views this as a selfish choice, one that “diminishes us” and “takes away our humanity.”  He further explained how this growing trend not only disheartens individuals, but also societies at large.
