It’s been said, time and again, that swimming with the sharks means you might get hurt. So why do we think that swimming with 40-ton whales is any different?
We think it’s fun to stretch limits to the max. But if we alarm others, then the fun is at their expense.
And so it is with our mammalian brethren. When we think it's cute to bathe with their babies, humpback whales will rightfully defend. Humans might better stick with water ballet. Or with anything that doesn't invoke the slap of a mighty tail.
