Making Stones Sing

When you’ve been through a lot, it’s time to sing.  Even if you’re a burnt-out set of stones.

Notre-Dame’s grand organ was completed in 1867.  Miraculously, it survived the fire of 2019.  However, the soot and humidity have gotten to it since.

Restorers are hard at work, making sure to refurbish the organ’s “five keyboards, pedalboard… 109 stop knobs [and] 8,000 pipes.”  The entire cathedral is set to open in 2024, at which time the organ will once again make “the stones sing.”
