Centrosaurus (Image by Fred Wierum) |
It turns out that some suffered from cancer, just as humans do. Researchers found the hind leg bone of a Centrosaurus apertus that was riddled with metastatic cancer. This dinosaur had lived approximately 76 million years ago, somehow managing to survive such an advanced disease.
Because its bones were found alongside those of many others, scientists believe that they all died together in a flood. This indicates close herd relations. Chances are that the strong members had helped the weaker ones to survive: a lesson that needn't go unheeded today.
