Footprints on Moon (Fair Use) |
While the U.
S. was dickering over walls, China was
launching a mission to the far side of the
moon. The Chang’e lunar probe landed there
this morning, representing “a landmark in human
space exploration.”
We'd like to
think that this simply means a giant leap
forward for all mankind. However, space can
also become the next huge battlefield. He who
controls the moon controls a strategic military base.
Will we make
of the moon what we’ve made of
Earth? Will we mine her bounties while undermining
our own? Advanced technology needs
advanced ethics in order to ultimately succeed.
