One of the
400 Navajo Code Talkers, Newman had
partnered in developing an unbreakable encryption
system. He was a Marine who
“served in the Pacific Islands” during that
crucial time.
Major Howard
Connor, a signal officer at Iwo Jima,
explained that the Marines would never have
won that battle were it not for the Navajos.
