Aducanumab: Amyloid cleanser

Alzheimer's Tangles    (Public Domain)
Just as dentists routinely remove plaque from the gums, doctors may soon routinely remove plaque from the brain.

There’s a new drug called aducanumab which contains antibodies that target amyloid plaque.  This sticky plaque has been thought to cause Alzheimer’s Disease.  Monthly infusions of aducanumab may therefore slow or halt the
progression of early Alzheimer’s.

Clinical trials are currently being done in order to “further evaluate [the] safety and efficiency” of aducanumab.  If things go well, this could be the breakthrough that thousands have prayed for.
