Jupiter's 'Doppler'

2014 Jovian Image    (by NASA, ESA and A. Simon)
Those who watch weather channels here on Earth are used to seeing swirling Doppler images.  These often denote hurricanes and tornados.

Strong as they are, Earth storms are minor compared to Jupiter’s.  Juno, a NASA
spacecraft that’s been capturing close-up
images of Jupiter, has been showing cloud systems and massive storms in detail never seen before.

Such images are available of both Jupiter’s poles.  There are nine massive cyclones at the north pole, a central one encircled by eight others.

The Juno craft is expected to measure the gas giant’s “temperature, composition, cloud movements and more.”  It will detect all this by peering “through Jupiter’s dense atmosphere.”
