Hmmm... (by Frederic Leighton) |
Research,
however, indicates that you might be just
plain smart. It seems that intelligent folks are
often pursuing goals that require solitary
projects. Whether praying and meditating,
or studying and creating, alone time
seems paramount.
Although “the
brains of our hunter-gatherer ancestors”
were hardwired for socialization, many of us
no longer have to rely upon continual companionship
for survival. We often make
do with Facebook “friends,” phone pals, and
a small inner circle.
Are virtual
relationships replacing actual ones? Does the depth of a core group compensate
for the breadth of a larger one? You may have to ask a sociologist, preferably one who spends a
great deal of solitary time studying
such matters.
