It's hard to
pinpoint, but there's something that gets “emotionally
etched” into faces over
time. This involves a “chronic contraction
of muscles,” especially around the
eyes and mouth, that can lead to
structural changes.
Such subtlety
won’t necessarily show when smiling,
and is most visible when accompanying
a neutral-looking expression. The latter
is when the anxiety of poverty can undermine
job prospects during face-to-face interviews.
