Low-tech 'Holy Grail'

(Drawing by Edouard Riou)
While inspecting debris from Hurricane Irma, a Florida couple found the “Holy Grail for beachcombers,” a message in a bottle.

This message had been launched in the 1980s by a group of Scottish schoolchildren.  It took decades for the corked bottle to travel 4000-plus miles.  The children had written:  We would like to see how far this message goes.

Now we know.

Their message not only reached Florida, but traveled round the rest of the world via Internet. This is something to keep in mind when wondering whether one gesture, person or group can possibly make a difference.
