Pomelo (by P. Depannemaeker) |
Fortunately,
there are some Chinese New Year
foods that do the trick. Improve your luck with a yellow
pomelo, and you might just win the
lottery. Sweets add sweetness to life
itself, such as the appropriately-named “Auspicious
Cake.”
Lest your
life become sweet but short, some leafy
greens are in order. They “represent
longevity,” as do long noodles. Spring rolls
resemble gold bars and are therefore
associated with wealth. But melon seeds
do one better. They represent wealth
plus happiness. As the universal saying goes: “Live
long and prosper!”
