At Any Age

While there’s life, there’s hope, including the hope of beginning anew.  Yet many believe that elders should set career goals aside.

A Senior Living survey of more than a thousand respondents reveals the prevalence of these limiting beliefs.  Results indicate that “anyone 61 years old and up is considered too old for a new career.”

This type of “prophecy” can be all too self-fulfilling.  Although it is illegal to outright inquire about a job applicant’s age, screeners have relatively easy ways of obtaining such information.

Nevertheless, Ronald Reagan was elected   U. S. president shortly before his 70th birthday.  Laura Ingalls Wilder published her first “hit” novel at age 65, and Peter Mark Roget began work on his famous thesaurus after retiring from a long career in medicine.
