Qinghai Camp

Can’t quite make it to Mars?  Well, then, don’t despair.  China’s got a camp for you.

There’s a red-rock region of Qinghai that’s somewhat like the geography and climate of Mars (minus cringe-worthy features such as “frequent sandstorms" and “strong radiation”).  This is where China’s “first Mars simulation base” is located.

Even without a dash of “low air pressure,” campers can get a (bitter?) taste of what living on the red planet might entail.  China is hoping that young campers will soon be begging for more.  After all, flexible limbs will be needed for winning the international space race.
