Lions and tigers and steer, oh my!

Come on in!    (Photo by beckstei)
Twenty-five miles north of Houston, there’s a Petco store with a provocative policy:  ALL LEASHED PETS ARE WELCOME.

Customers decided to test this policy by bringing in a 1600-pound steer with horns measuring “114 inches from tip to tip.”  This formidable animal was “welcomed with open arms” by Petco staff.

Some people keep ferocious cats as pets.  Would they, too, be welcomed into a human huddle?  Where does the line get drawn?  Hopefully not around vulnerable necks.

Animal rights are one thing, but treating potentially dangerous beasts as one of the gang could end up denying their rights.  Such creatures can wind up being killed for doing what comes naturally: defending against possible threats within unfamiliar settings.
