Homeless shelter to Harvard dorm

Goddess Athena  (Photo by Jastrow)
Often it is darkest before dawn.  In this case, it was darkest before dorm.

Athena Capo-Battaglia was living in a New York City homeless shelter when she decided to become a “volunteer cop.”  Athena (a name associated with wisdom) afterwards graduated as valedictorian of her Auxiliary Police class.

The accolades kept on coming to this hard-working teen, culminating with an acceptance into Harvard.  Athena is now majoring in neuroscience and living at the Cambridge, Massachusetts campus.

When visiting with her mother back in Jamaica, Queens, Athena once again stays at the homeless shelter and volunteers with the local police force.
