Vietnam: Bombs not away

USAF bomber over Vietnam    (PD)
War is the curse that keeps on coming, sometimes generations after the fighting ends.

Of the “16 million tons of bombs” that America dropped on Vietnam, half “are still embedded in farmland and jungle across… [the] central provinces.”

Farmers who come across these weapons are tempted to prioritize profit over safety.  They often try to “salvage the metal casings and explosives,” with hopes of selling or using them.

Many such bombs have then exploded, leaving tens of thousands injured or dead.  This week alone, six villagers were killed “when cutting open the 105 mm shell.”  Three of the six were children.
