3,000-year-old goddess emerges

Goddess Kubaba   (Public Domain)
From deep within southeastern Turkey, an ancient goddess has emerged.  Some say she might have even been a political leader.  All too often such roles overlap.

Estimated to have originally been 16 feet tall, she is now a stump of her former self.  Her remains seem to have been defaced, perhaps within an act of supreme defiance.

The weightiness of this icon suggests that women were revered back in that Neo-Hittite, early Iron Age society.  Kubaba, “divine mother of the gods of ancient Anatolia,” certainly was.
