NPR's mindful Declaration

Original Declaration      (Public Domain)
One thing about Twitter, it certainly can focus people’s attention on just a few words. Consider it to be a verbal zoom lens.

When NPR recently took the Declaration of Independence line-by-line to Twitter, citizens were alarmed.  Not recognizing the source of these tweeted quotes, readers responded in knee-jerk fashion.  One even wrote:  Are you drunk?  Your silly tweets make your state of mind questionable.  Others assumed that NPR was personally attacking President Trump.

It just goes to show how little most know about their own heritage.  Defending it has become a battle of he-said/she-said, rather than a transmission of accurate knowledge.
