Make no mistake: Many regard the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a holy war.  Leading the troops (literally and figuratively) are those who claim that Kyiv, birthplace of Russian Orthodoxy, must be brought “back into the fold.”

They additionally claim that the “godless West” must be held back, primarily due to its acceptance of homosexuality.  Such politicization and militarization of religion has been known to occur time and again throughout human history.
