Vulcan forges on! (1630 painting by Diego Velasquez) |
The latest reported marsquakes “have magnitudes of 3.3 and 3.1.” Although Mars does not have tectonic plates, it does have volcanic activity.
There may be far more upheavals than InSight has thus far noted. During the Martian northern winter, seismic activity is often obscured by windy conditions.
In all of human history, we’ve not managed to conquer volcanos here on Earth. Imagine the shaking, baking and breaking that might affect our fledgling efforts on Mars.
