Mutually Assisted Living

Something exciting is happening in Senior Living at Watkins, an assisted living facility in Winona, Minnesota.  College students are sharing living space with the elders there.

The administration offered six students an opportunity to live at the facility for $400 per month, which includes free meals.  In return, each student will volunteer for at least 10 hours per month.  If more hours, then more benefits.

This has been a win-win situation for all concerned.  Intergenerational residents are bonding over shared activities.  Director Cheryl Krage sees this as a “perfect opportunity for students interested in any aspect of healthcare.”
