Lighten Down

Pollination     (Photo by Chiswick Chap)
Sometimes there’s literally too much light on a subject, especially when that subject is insects.

Turns out that light pollution, along with “climate change and habitat loss,” is contributing to an “insect apocalypse.” Artificial lights, especially at night, can greatly interfere with natural cycles that are crucial for insect survival.  These cycles include reproduction, growth, and food gathering.

If you’re thinking how pleasant a bug-free world might be, think again.  Since insects pollinate many of our food sources, we might not last that long without them.
