What was not-so-innocently portrayed as a box of cookies from Poland turned out to be an illegal shipment of 757 live

tarantulas.

This was discovered by Filipino customs officials during a routine check.  The value of this contraband is estimated at USD 5,900.

“Arachnid enthusiasts” covet such companions, despite strict wildlife regulations.  Other forbidden (yet popular) pets include “geckos, iguanas, chameleons and… bearded dragons.”
