97 and Still Going Strong

Not this year...   (Photo by UtilisateurFRED)
These days, early retirement seems all the rage.  Make all the money you can, as fast as you can, then quit the grind as soon as you can.

But what if you’re one of those fortunate few who loves the daily routine?  What if you’re one of those fortunate few whose work is not just a job, but a calling?

Well then, you might want to keep on trucking.  Or advising, if you’re a “country lawyer” like James L. Bass, Jr.  At 97, Bass still works at the office he founded seven decades ago.  And not just once in a while...  He’s there from early morning until late afternoon, pretty much every weekday.

When asked why (by those of us longing for the beaches of Tahiti), Bass replies:  When night comes, I know I put a day’s work in, and I can sleep well.
