Planets for Breakfast

Look out now!  (Photo by Jastrow)
Why settle for corn flakes when you can devour planets instead?

We’re taught from grade school on that our nearest star is earth’s ultimate friend.  Songs such as “You Are My Sunshine” and “Here Comes the Sun” attest to its adoration by third-rock inhabitants.

Hopefully, our solar buddy won’t be taking any cues from Kronos, “a distant sun-like star.” Kronos, aptly named after a mythological Titan “who ate his own children out of fears they’d dethrone him,” has probably been snacking on nearby planets for eons.  Telltale tidbits have been found in its mineral-rich layers.

So next time you’re forced to slather on sunscreen, think to yourself:  it could be worse.  You could be deep fried within that SPF 45 if Apollo suddenly craves human tenders.
