If something's got your goat, get another

Ever wonder where certain expressions come from?  Dictionary.com can help clear things up.

To “get someone’s goat” means “to make someone annoyed or angry.”  Believe it or not, goats were once used to calm high-strung race horses.  On the night before a big event, “a goat was placed in the horse’s stall.”  Sounds cuddly.  However, “unscrupulous opponents would then steal the goat in an effort to upset the horse…”

So if you too are upset, get with a goat.  Clients at Maryland’s Ashley Addiction are discovering this firsthand.  Part of their treatment entails caring for the facility’s five goats on a daily basis.  This affords them opportunities for “unconditional love, the ability to bond and to re-learn trust.”
