No one is disputing that it’s wrong, way wrong, to steal a grandchild’s Christmas gift. From beneath the tree, no less.
Nevertheless, there’s got to be a backstory. What drove that granny to such an extent? What sense of desperation might she have felt?
Perhaps she was hungry. Perhaps she was being threatened by debt collectors. Perhaps she was in the throes of drug withdrawal.
Now you might then think that this was self-induced. But it can be tough to figure out where to point the finger. Sometimes it’s just best for compassion to pick up where analysis leaves off.
