Plainer in Plains

While most ex-presidents are living the high life, Jimmy Carter is living the good life.

He and Rosalynn reside in Plains, Georgia, the same town they grew up in.  After leaving the White House in 1981, they moved right back into their modest ranch home.

Not content with just having a roof over his own head, Carter helps build houses for others with his very “own hammer and tool belt.”  To date, he has taken part in the renovation of “4,300 homes in 14 countries for Habitat for Humanity.”

Carter regularly teaches Sunday School at the local Baptist church.  People the world over wait on line to attend these lessons.

But Carter doesn’t feel or act like a big shot.  He and Rosalynn walk the town streets, greeting friends and neighbors along the way.  They not only cook for themselves, but also grow some food.  And why buy supermarket yogurt when you can culture your own?

When asked whether there's anything that they long for, the Carters couldn’t think of a thing.  And if something more were ever needed, the plain folks of Plains would be glad to provide.
