These days,
it is Donald Trump who issues such
orders. He recently signed Space Policy
Directive 1, which directs NASA to
embark upon “an innovative space
exploration program” that would “return
Americans to the surface of the moon and
onward to Mars.”
This venture
would plant a lot more than a flag on the
lunar surface. It would not only pave
the way for a journey to Mars, but also “perhaps,
someday, to many worlds beyond.”
