The cure for 'giver's remorse'

Pay it forward!   (US Mint)
When we drop some cash into a bucket, do we quiz the bell-ringer about how it will be spent, or do we trust that it will be used wisely?

Generally the latter, although there might be some sticklers out there who want an accounting.  They are (perhaps unfairly) said to be suffering from “giver’s remorse,” i.e., the desire to control exactly how their donations will be utilized.

When donors generously contributed to the GoFundMe page for homeless veteran Johnny Bobbitt, Jr., some naysayers were concerned about how he would use that money.  Would he share it with others?  If so, in what manner?  Would he get his life back together, or would he go for instant gratification?

The South Jersey Times Editorial Board pointed out that Bobbitt’s GoFundMe initiators, Kate McClure and Mark D’Amico, have “tried to ensure that the funds will be spent responsibly” by connecting “Bobbitt with a financial advisor.”

Nevertheless, gifts – unless specifically earmarked in advance – are just that: gifts.  The true cure for “giver’s remorse” is to know when to let go and Let God.
