Rockefeller Row: O Tannenbaums

Ever wonder what happens to the Rockefeller Center Christmas trees after the season?  Some live on as “organ donors” in Newburgh, New York.

There is a street dubbed “Rockefeller Row” in  this “hardscrabble city” 50 miles upriver from Manhattan.  Within the same block, four houses contain “wood from three of the Rockefeller trees.”

One such tree can yield about 100 boards, sturdy lumber that is used for framing and flooring. Each board has been “stamped with an image of the tree and the year it was on display.”

How nice to continue the cycle of life in this manner.  We owe these “Giving Trees” at least that much.
