Still No Place at the Inn

Nativity of Jesus  (by Sandro Botticelli)
On Christmas Eve, Pope Francis compared the plight of today’s immigrants to that of Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem.

He urged that “hearts should not be closed,” and further explained that “faith demands… foreigners be welcomed.” The pontiff’s recent visit to Myanmar convinced him all the more that minority groups (such as the Muslim Rohingya in this predominantly Buddhist country) must be treated with
dignity.

How can people move in this merciful direction?  Francis invited listeners “to see the defenseless baby Jesus in the children who suffer the most from war, migration and natural calamities caused by man today.”
