CEO Elon
Musk had pledged to build “the world’s
biggest lithium ion battery” within 100
days or “provide it for free” to South
Australia. The deadline has been met,
and Tesla’s battery is now storing
energy from a wind farm in that region.
Thirty-thousand homes can be
powered with this supply, which will
go a long way toward alleviating South
Australia’s blackouts.
Better yet,
it’s contagious. South Korea will soon
have a battery that “is about 50% bigger than
Tesla’s.” This one is currently
being built by the Hyundai Electric
& Energy Systems company.
