Bryant to Hayward: Focus on recovery

Say what you want about Kobe Bryant - and plenty’s been said - but he’s been there, done that, and knows whereof he speaks.

Bryant recently spoke out for Gordon Hayward, fellow NBA star who was badly injured.  After Hayward was recently airlifted back to Boston with a “gruesome” broken ankle, Bryant sent him an Instagram message.

Highlights include these words:  Be sad. Be mad. Be frustrated. Scream. Cry. Sulk…  But then it’s “time to move on and focus on doing everything in your power to prepare for surgery, ask all the questions to be sure you fully understand the procedure so that you may visualize it in your subconscious while being operated on and better the chance of its success.”

Ah…  The power of visualization!  Bryant then emphasizes the power of detailed attention.  He reminds Hayward to “focus on the recovery process day by day by day.”  In this way, Hayward can learn to appreciate “simple things that prior to this injury were taken for granted.”  This, in turn, will lead to a newfound ability to “train harder” and “come back a better player for it.”

Amen, Kobe!  Spoken like a champ.
