When the Clean Label Project recently tested “about 530 baby food products,” arsenic was found within 65 percent of them. These included “mainstream brands” such as Gerber; in fact, it was among the worst offenders.
“Far more than just trace amounts” of arsenic was detected in such favorites as “infant rice cereal” and “snack puffs.” Rice
tends to absorb “arsenic from contaminated soil as it grows in the environment.”
Common baby foods also tested positive for lead, cadmium and acrylamide. Ingesting such chemicals could damage the “fine motor skills and cognition” of such a vulnerable population.
