Reverend Rogers' Neighborhood

Fred Rogers in 1946   (Public Domain)
You can call him Mister, or you can call him Reverend.  Either way, he’s still the nicest guy in the neighborhood.

Fred Rogers was actually an ordained Presbyterian minister. Having had a “lonely childhood,” he knew firsthand what it was like to be ostracized by peers.  This may very well have led to his lifelong passion for inclusiveness.

Although a full-fledged graduate of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Rogers “never explicitly mentioned his faith on the show.”  In keeping with Jesus’ own inclusivity regarding neighbors, Fred wanted children of all backgrounds to feel welcome.
