Cosmic Burps

Milky Way   (NASA infrared image)
“As above, so below” may certainly apply when it comes to the messy “cycle of feasting, burping, and then napping for a while.”

In the center of our Milky Way galaxy lies a gigantic black hole.  Over eons of time, it had feasted on gas, then emitted cosmic burps at least once.  Scientists note that this faux pas occurred in 2010, and others are likely to follow.

Should we be setting up shelters regarding such eventualities?  Not to worry.  Our little corner of the galaxy is far enough away from such Milky eruptions to politely ignore them.  Were we up close and personal, Earth would have burnt to a crisp long ago.
