Birthmark: Every inch an inspiration

We tend to cover up that which seems markedly different about ourselves.  Many a budding genius hides talent for fear of bullying by peers.  Many a budding beauty slathers make-up onto a perceived flaw.

Ferrin Roy has taken the path less traveled, and that has made all the difference.  Born with a four-inch facial birthmark, she “never even noticed” it until the age of nine.  Later in life, however, strangers would come over and inquire “about removal.”  Others would “ask if it was paint” and “ask to touch it.”

Many would shy away from such queries, but not Roy.  She has been determined to “never let other people’s opinions let her down,” and is inspiring “others to think the same way.”  This mental health counselor has written a book called “The Mark She Kept,” which is all about embracing differences and loving uniqueness.
