When security goes too far

What would Ben do?     (Public Domain)
“If you see something, say something” has been in vogue for quite some time.  Nevertheless, it pays to remember this warning:  He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.

Two sisters recently missed their dad’s final moments due to hypervigilance on the part of a flight attendant.  Because they were seated in different parts of the cabin, one sibling went over to comfort the other.  The comforter was told “to sit down” and to “leave your personal problems off the plane.”

Her sister then said to the attendant, “You might consider getting a different kind of job if you can’t be more compassionate.”  Long story short: Both siblings were then ordered off the plane.  No other flight was available in time to reach their father before his death.

An alleged fellow passenger told NBC news:  …what the stewardess did was very cold-hearted and very unnecessary.  Allegiant Air then added:  We expect
that authority [of crew members] to be exercised… with empathy and with good judgment.
