Scapegoating: Alive and well in Lancaster County

Ignorance and Want  (Illustration by John Leech)
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania has long been popular for all the right reasons.  Now it is also popular for all the wrong ones.

After the fifth-grade production of A Christmas Carol was cancelled at the Centerville Elementary School this
year, fingers began pointing. They weren’t pointing at the school administration, nor were they pointing at the First Amendment.  They were instead pointing right at Jewish parents who had “asked if their child could be excused from the play.”

This child was then "harassed at school," and the  family fled from town after a suggestion was made that their address be published on national media sites.  The parents explained, “There’s no way we’re going to take a chance after the pizza incident [during which an assault rifle was fired at restaurant customers].”
