Harlem deer: What can the matter be?

It may seem like a relatively simple matter to assist a deer that wandered into New York City.  Mayor De Blasio’s response, however,

was to recommend euthanasia.

Then along came Governor Cuomo to allegedly save the day.  He directed the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation “to find alternatives to killing the deer.”  The plan was to transport the whitetail upstate, but that did not come to pass.

The Harlem deer died in captivity, while the city debated its fate.
