Ticklish Situations

Hey there!    (by Inge Habex)
Ever hear a rat giggle?  A pig guffaw?  A gorilla snicker?

More to the point:  Ever wonder what the most ticklish part of anybody’s body is?  Inquiring scientists are in your corner..

Researchers S. Ishiyama and M. Brecht already have some answers.  After playing kitchy-koo with some furry friends, they concluded that ticklishness resides deep within the somatosensory cortex.  Microstimulation of this brain region is akin to lightly stroking human necks with feathers.

So there you have it.  A new way of relating to so-called pests.  Why trap them when you can share some belly laughs instead?
