Kanye West: Shaking things up

West in 2009   (Photo by David Shankbone)
As usual, Kanye West was hurling zingers at his audience.  This time around, he told fans that he would have voted for Trump, had he voted at all.

Such proclamations did not endear him to his listeners.  This Twitter comment sums up many of the reactions:  Can Kanye West just make music and nothing else??         I like his songs but I don’t like him.

On the other hand, had West put forth a more “politically correct” message (for this particular group), wouldn’t some detractors have cheered him on instead?  As he pointed out:  I did a song and y’all sang it at the top of your lungs.  That doesn’t mean that you’re a Trump supporter.  That just means that you’re okay with a celebrity having their own opinion…   That might not be your opinion but you can still like that person or still like that person’s music.

But what about Trump's allegedly-racist overtones?  West shook it up on that score too, saying:  We are in a racist country.  Period…  Not one or the other candidate is going to instantly change that.

Maybe not instantly, but some might at least be moving in the right direction…
