Colorado recently made this perfectly clear by passing a law which allows for the composting of human remains. Called “natural reduction,” this green method involves “a lot of microbial beings” within an “air-filtered chamber” that contains “wood chips, alfalfa, [and] straw.”
The process takes considerably longer than cremation and is therefore more expensive. However, it yields “no appreciable carbon emissions or release of toxic fumes.”
