Geese often fly in a V, so why not aviators?
This may have been the thinking when the “Flying V” was designed. A scale model recently took off from German soil. Its oversized wings are meant to contain passengers, baggage and fuel tanks. The aerodynamic design bodes well for fuel efficiency.
The test flight went reasonably well, but highlighted potential difficulties with take-off and landing. The TU Delft Netherlands team will continue to work on such issues.
